Use Helix: Individuals

Track Your Career and Understand Your Skill Set

This tool can provide you with critical insights into your knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) for critical problem solving and allows you to plan growth targets for your skillset. You will also be able to map your career trajectory and identify gaps or areas of particular strength based on your career.  The tool was developed as part of an eight-year global investigation on systems engineering effectiveness.

This tool is built on findings from nearly 500 individuals in systems engineering and related fields across over 30 organizations. The tool provides a proficiency framework for you to assess your skillset, set growth targets, and track your progress. It also provides structure for you to examine and analyze your career over time.

The tool is an online assessment that asks you to reflect on and assess your experiences and skills in complex problem solving with particular emphasis on systems engineering. It can be used by systems engineers or anyone that needs to gain insight into their complex problem solving, systems thinking, or technical leadership abilities.

Completing the self-assessment of your current skillset takes about 15 minutes. Setting a target profile can take another 15-20 minutes. The time required for career self-assessment will depend on the length of your career and how many positions you wish to analyze. However, we have found that as people get used to the framework, they can complete each new position more quickly.
